RESEARC FOCUS

My research activities focus primarily on the nexus of human-wildlife interactions in relation to environmental sustainability, plant and animal biodiversity, and limited natural resource availability.  It addresses both the biological and sociological challenges to managing wildlife on increasingly human dominated landscape.  It contributes directly to environmental and natural resource conservation and management.  I assessed the land use patterns as it affects conservation, since humans control a great deal of the habitat loss and fragmentation that influence wildlife species.  My research assessed areas where high biodiversity interact closely with socio-economic issues concerning past changes and future management.  My research also showed how the distribution of different types of habitat influences species persistence and productivity in Nigeria as well as threats to wildlife and their utilizable products and the effects of wildlife damage on tourism.  It evaluates the effects of cattle grazing and natural disturbances on native ecosystems.  It documented crop raiding and non-raiding groups; with respect to primates (buffaloes, gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys) affecting ‘on farm’ and ‘on storage’ crops in Nigeria as compared to the damage by elephants and insects. It investigated crop types that are not preferrd by the wildanimals for purpose of cultivation and thus conserving biodiversity while enhancing agricultural production benefits in the landscape.  My study further revealed the importance of forage specie-specific preferences in the distribution of wild animals in protected area to enhance game viewing for tourism promotion.
